Abstract
SHS reactions in solid nanosized multilayers yielding a single-phase product were modeled numerically and analytically. Scaling behavior of the product “burning velocity × multilayer period” was predicted. The effect of mean vacancy free pathlength and initial vacancy supersaturation on the SHS rate was investigated numerically. Within a wide range of process parameters, the front velocity appears to be inversely proportional to the square root of mean vacancy free pathlength.
